Dear Friends in Christ,
Gaudete in Domino semper: “Rejoice in the Lord always!” These words of Saint Paul’s letter to the Philippians form the spiritual foundation of this Third Sunday of Advent. In particular, we here at Saint Francis de Sales have much to rejoice about: whether it is the uplifting visit of Archbishop Perez and the parish celebration of our restoration project, this week’s choir concert which drew many from our local community, or the many works of mercy – spiritual and corporal – undertaken in our community by various individuals and groups, often in small and hidden ways.
The Lord dwells among his people. This message of hope serves as the impetus for true Christian joy. He continues to dwell in our midst in the Eucharist and all the sacraments. In that light, may I make a strong appeal to all parishioners? Please don’t let Advent go by without experiencing the Lord’s transforming mercy in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. Even if it has been a long time, let Confession be your early Christmas gift to yourself. We have Confessions available every Saturday from 9am-10am and every Sunday from 9:30am-10am. Also, we will have special opportunity on Saturday, December 23rd from 12pm-1pm. If you need a refresher on how to prepare for the Sacrament of Penance, check out thelightison.org.
Come, Lord Jesus!
